Happy New Year and Love to All,
Christine and I remain thankful to family and friends checking in on her, asking how she’s doing, and providing prayer cover. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” ~ Psalm 147:3 Connor was able to visit for Christmas! Our little family was blessed to be together and exchange presents. (photos below) May this blog post find you and family and friends healthy and in reasonably good spirits despite anxiety-riddled social media algorithms and the concerning state of things today.
Surgery Update
We hope to have a date for Christine’s spinal stimulator implant tomorrow! Christine just spent 10 and 1/2 hours in the hallway of an emergency room because she felt so much worse and needed any help they could give. Agonizing pain is all across her arms, shoulders, neck and extremities, making it nearly impossible to sleep or even think reasonable well. Thankfully she received a little pain medication and met her spinal surgeon, who scheduled a consult for tomorrow and said he’d try his best to schedule a February surgery.
The Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) will send low-voltage electrical impulses to the spinal cord, masking pain signals before they reach the brain. Click here for a YouTube video explanation of how it works. Christine has a 50% chance of it working. If it works, the SCS might lower her pain up to 50%. It will be a welcome treatment, not a cure. But that in itself will be life transforming!
Christine’s mom Jan Kohlweck graciously offered to finance the surgery – we are SO grateful! Thank you sincerely to those who suggested a GoFundMe and offered to contribute. We are blessed by amazing people in our lives. Thank you for your love, support and prayers.
