Infection
On top of her arm agony, Christine has been fighting an infection for weeks. We are trying her 3rd course of antibiotics. Thank God she has not flatlined from C. Diff complications like she did last July. The fecal transplant truly saved her life. Meanwhile, she is miserable and we’ve been through a range of clinics, doctors, medicines and treatments. We were hoping she’d be well enough for a quick visit to Oktoberfest that is 90 minutes away, but she’s been barely able to get out of bed. We agreed to return to the Memmingen hospital tomorrow unless she’s markedly better.
MRI
Dr. Christian Wienand, who graciously agreed to see Christine once referred by the private clinic, read her MRI scans this week. He is not a neurologist, but gave his opinion that Christine’s fused neck vertebrae look alright, that surgery would not likely help Christine, that he still did not know what was causing the agonizing pain in her left arm, and apologized she may have to live with that pain.
Forward
So tomorrow we’ll visit the local hospital and hope for a better treatment of Christine’s infection. If she gets stronger, we might try acupuncture or massage to see if they can lessen her arm pain. I’d love to treat her to a spa with a warm pool (shhhh don’t tell her) if she improves, because Chrstine is SO happy when she can float in water and do some small exercises. Back near Boston, we used to join an old folks water aerobics class in the swimming pool but there no photographs so if you ask me in person I will deny everything.
It’s a lot of paperwork and phone calls to other languages, but we are slowly making our way towards Residence in a country with actual healthcare. We’re happy to pay private insurance for a few years, but Christine’s life is too precious and can’t be risked by the American for-profit insurance system denying care for dollars.
